Mortier 280 mm siege howitzer on Saint Chamond

French mobile artillery designed in the last years of WWI. The 280mm was a massive siege howitzer mounted on a motorised tracked chassis, the increased size of the 280mm over the standard 194mm required an huge addition recoil foot at the rear of the carriage. The Gun Chassis was propelled by 2 electric motors, but relied on a cable from a separate Lead Vehicle which carried the ammunition and a 120 horsepower electrical generator.

Production began in 1918 with 25 of the 280mm armed vehicles completed by the end of 1919. Their impressive size made them perfect for propaganda films in 1939-40, but they saw limited action during the battle of France.

The guns continued in German service after the fall of France, designated  28 cm Mörser 602(f) auf Selbstfahrlafette. Several were used to bombard static defences and cities during the invasion of the Soviet Union.

This kit can be modeled with stablisers up or down.

Model provided unpainted and unassembled, Lead Vehicle available seperately.
