1/72 (20mm) Saint Chamond Tractor Avant-Train

French support vehicle designed to pair with gun vehicles using the same chassis. Lead Vehicle carried ammunition and a 120 horsepower electrical generator which powered both it's own electrical drive motors, but also the motors on the gun chassis via a flexible power cable.

The tractor could support either the more common 194mm armed chassis or version fitted with the heavier 280mm siege mortar. When supporting either gun they had to remain close, providing shells and electrical power for traversing and retargeting.

Production began in 1918 can completed by the end of 1919. The impressive size of the guns made them perfect for propaganda films in 1939-40, but they saw limited action during the battle of France.

The guns and thier attendant tractors continued in German and Italian service after the fall of France. Several supported the bombardment of Leningrad during the siege, and others recaptured in Italy were used in a coastal defence role.

This kit can be modeled with stablisers up or down, by 1940 the French army often ashewed setting up the stabilisers in favour of quick setup and redeployment.

Model provided unpainted and unassembled, Gun Vehicle available seperately.
